A Free People
Romans 6:13-18
Romans 6:18 says, "Being then made free from
sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
One thing that we should cherish is our freedom. If we were
to count our many blessings, right at the top of the list would be something we call freedom. It could be defined as "exemption
from external control, interference, or regulation." It also can mean, "the right to enjoy all the special rights and privileges
of citizenship." Spiritually speaking, God’s redeemed people are free or better yet "free indeed." Let's look at our
spiritual freedom. But first allow me to, by the grace of God, open these verses.
I. The Agent Of Our Freedom- (Jn. 8:32-36)
1. It is God’s Word that cuts us
loose from the
old life and brings
us into a new one.
2. Think about this, Truth, the word, actually
worked on us
before we were saved
A. It made us
aware of our sinful condition.
B. It brought
about conviction or the sense of sin in us.
3. Aren’t you glad someone preached it
to you?
A. Now we understand the full
meaning of
(I
Corinthians 1:21)
II. The Acknowledgment Of Our Freedom (Rom.10:9-10)
1. Why do we need to acknowledge our freedom?
A. To grasp, to
realize, and to really know we are truely
saved, truely free. (1 John 5:17)
2. If we realize, understand,
and know that we are truely free
A. We have no business allowing
sin to have power over us
B. We have no business
allowing Satan to rule over us.
1.
Oh, hear (1John 4:4)
C. We have the
power to and can live a more effective
Christian
life.
III. The Aspects Of Our Freedom- (free from what?)
1. From the penalty of sin (Rom.6:23).
A. This verse tells
us that the wages of sin is death or eternal
separation from Holy God forever and ever.
B. Being born again sets you free
from this penalty
2. From the power of sin (Rom. 6:14).
A. Salvation brings an implanted "new nature"
1.
This new nature overcomes that old Adamic nature we
took on at birth.
2. We no
longer have to submit to sin and the power of
Satan.
3. From the very presence of sin.
A. We will be free to
enjoy the perfect world called heaven
one day.
B. We are not trying
to be justified by the deeds of the law.
C. We are justified
through personal faith and trust in the
Lord Jesus Christ.
IV. The Acclamation Of Our Freedom (Matthew 28:16-20)
1. If we have been set free spiritually
A. It is our obligation
to tell others what has happened to us.
2. There are so many folks today bound
by sin and in the
clutches
of evil people
A. That being
the case, we must proclaim what Christ has
done for us in salvation.
3. Jesus has given us the power to be witnesses. (Acts
1:8)
4. The sinner does not have to stay bound
A. Christ has
promised him freedom if he will come by the
way
of the cross.
4. Enjoy your freedom!
CONCLUSION
Everybody longs
for freedom. But for many people its pursuitleads to bondage. The greatly loved Bible teacher Henrietta Mears knew the secret
of true freedom, and she wanted her students to know it too. With young people in mind, she said, "A bird is free in the air.
Place a bird in the water and he has lost his liberty. A fish is free in the water, but leave him on the sand and he perishes.
He is out of his realm. So, young people, the Christian is free when he does the will of God and is obedient to God's command.
This is as natural a realm for God's child as the water is for the fish, or the air for the bird."
