Jesus Is Indeed the "Good" Shepherd

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:6-18

Today I want to once again use our entire preaching time to magnify our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ by bring a message about His wonderful Person!

Jesus is THE GOOD SHEPHERD!
What a blessing to be one of the Lord's sheep! Are you one of His sheep?

(Psalms 100:3) Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Today I want us to look at the Shepherd, especially in His dealings with us.

I. JESUS LOVES THE SHEEP (the people)

    (John 6-14) (Mark 6:34)

   1. Even though they may be unlovely

      A. To be lovely means to be full of love, to be enjoyable, delightful.

      B. To be sure there are some mighty unlovely people in this world

        today, but.

   2. Even though they may be ungodly

      A. To be Godly means to reverence God and to live a moral life.

      B. To be sure there are many today who do not reverence God.

Do not live good honest moral lives, but

    3. Even though they may be uninterested

       A. To be sure there are many today who are not interested in

            God

       B. To be sure there are many who are not interested in God’s

            word.

       C. To be sure there are many who are not interested in being

            saved, but.

II. JESUS LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR THE SHEEP

    (John 10:15, 17-18)

    1. He died voluntarily

       A. No one did nor could force Jesus to go to the cross.

       B. No one did nor could force Jesus to stay on the cross, to suffer

            bleed and die

       C. He willing lay down His life.

    2. He died vicariously

        A. He died in our place

        B. He took our sins upon Himself fully paying the sin debt that we

             owed

    3. He died victoriously

        A. He willing paid the sin debt we owed in full, now we can enter

             heaven

       B. (John 14:19) Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no

more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

III. JESUS LOOKS FOR THE SHEEP

    (John 10:16) (Ezekiel 34:12)

    1. They are scattered sheep

       A. Abused by sin and Satan (John 10:10)
The thief cometh not,

but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they

might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

    2. They are straying sheep (Isa. 53:6) All we like sheep have

gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the

LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

    3. They are sinful sheep (Rom.3:23)For all have sinned, and

         come short of the glory of God;

IV. JESUS GIVES LIFE TO THE SHEEP (John 10:17; 27-30)

    1. Eternal life

          A. “Zoe” “forever” “never ending life”

    2. Exciting life

        A. It is exciting to be a Christian. Knowing that eternal heaven

            awaits you

       B. It is exciting to be a Christian. Able to serve almighty God

       C. It is exciting to be a Christian. To walk with the creator.

    3. Enjoyable life

       A. To be a Christian is to know the fullness of life.

VII. JESUS LEADS “HIS” SHEEP (John 10:1-3)

    1. He leads them to pasture

        A. (Philippiams 4:19) But my God shall supply all your need

according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

    2. He leads them in paths of righteousness

    3. He leads them to peace (beside the still waters)

        A. (John 14:27)Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto

you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your

heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

CONCLUSION

A Sunday school superintendent read this text. "Who can tell me what a yoke is?" he asked.

"Something they put on the necks of animals," answered a ten-year- old girl.

"Then," asked the leader, "what is God's yoke?"

There was silence until a four-year-old raised his hand and said, "God, putting His arms around our neck."

The Oriental shepherd was always ahead of his sheep. He was down in front. Any attack upon the sheep had to take him into account. Now our God is down in front. He is in the tomorrows.

Is Jesus Christ Your Shepherd? He Wants To Be. He Can Be Your Shepherd.
